Karen, the illustrious proprietor, will also have wine and snacks, so if my work isn’t enough to get you there, think of it as a free glass of wine.

You may have noticed that NYC Taxis started sporting a new logo on the door when all the other gizmos started going in (The credit card reader, the inane TV, and the in my experience so far largely non-functional GPS, etc). I find it remarkably bad, awkward, and over- (even possibly at the same time under-) designed. Turns out the NY Times has an article on the design process and imagine my surprise when I come across the detail that the “NYC” part (Top left) of the logo was designed by Wolff Olins — Former client, designers of some excellent work over the years, but, tragically, designers of the disastrous London Olympics Logo. Oomph.

Last time I wrote about the AT&T OGO it became my most commented post by miles. But, thanks to some news from Mr. Darkfall, there is a new “OGO 2″ on it’s way that will be multi-carrier (not just AT&T) and have some interesting quirks (Some kind of hinge clip thing that can be a separate phone, camera, or. . . bottle opener. . .Er? Just go read the article.).

In the few years since that original post, a lot had happened out there: AT&T spun off AT&T Wireless, AT&T Wireless was bought by Cingular, Cingular’s parent SBC was bought by AT&T, and now, in a “who would have guessed” move, AT&T wireless is once again “AT&T.” (Though I have heard rumors that the mobile group in AT&T may be rebranded for the umpteenth time, this time as “AT&T Mobility.” But that name is so bad I am going to work under the assumption it’s a bogus rumor.)

Also, in the interim, I went from a voice-only handset to a BlackBerry (7130c, soon to be a 8100), the iPhone arrived, and Nokia released it’s blitz of Series 60 (Or is it 80?) phones such as the N95. All in all, a lot of activity and mobile email, IM, and web surfing have most certainly hit mainstream in a big way. Who knows what the next three years have to bring…

For all one or two of you who visit here on a semi-regular basis, I should point out that the vast majority of activity happens over on the Recent Links page. That’s an unedited feed of my recent bookmarks on Del.icio.us. Rather than post a slew of mini-articles here that are essentially just a link to a site suggested by a blog, friend, poster, search, or happenchance, I tuck those snippets in my bookmarks and leave the main page here to more chunky topics.
