NYC & The New Taxi Logo

You may have noticed that NYC Taxis started sporting a new logo on the door when all the other gizmos started going in (The credit card reader, the inane TV, and the in my experience so far largely non-functional GPS, etc). I find it remarkably bad, awkward, and over- (even possibly at the same time under-) designed. Turns out the NY Times has an article on the design process and imagine my surprise when I come across the detail that the “NYC” part (Top left) of the logo was designed by Wolff Olins — Former client, designers of some excellent work over the years, but, tragically, designers of the disastrous London Olympics Logo. Oomph.
